The Group of Eight (G8) Summit is a forum for the governments of eight of the world's largest national economies. The ministerial meetings bring together ministers responsible for various portfolios to discuss issues of mutual or global concern. The range of topics include health, law enforcement, labor, economic and social development, energy, environment, foreign affairs, justice, terrorism, and trade.
'Manthan' - is an attempt to simulate the 'G8', in order to harness the power of ideas of the youth of this country to find solutions to some of the most pressing global problems of today. The entire event is based on a format very similar to the actual G8 summit, providing a realistic experience to the participants.
Screening 1. Each team is expected to write a 'Position paper' on a mentioned theme. 2. The theme along with the guidelines can be downloaded from the "Downloads" section. 3. A total of 8 teams will be shortlisted to participate in Round 2 to be conducted at SJMSOM, IIT Bombay
On Campus 1. The shortlisted teams will be randomly allotted countries of the G8, which they will represent in the Manthan Summit. The teams are expected to begin their research on that country before they attend the summit. 2. Throughout the day, event participants will engage in discussions (on pre-disclosed themes), knowledge dissemination sessions & distinguished speaker sessions which will leave an indelible impression on those who participate.
1. Participants from each college/corporate need to form a team of 3 members: a. Head of state b. Finance minister c. Foreign Minister 2. The Head of State, Finance Minister &Foreign Minister have to come down to the IIT Bombay campus for the actual discussion rounds scheduled for a day 3. All the members should belong to the same institute/company in each team 4. An individual can be part of only one team 5. All the teams need to be registered to participate in the event 6. The Organizing team reserves the right to modify the terms and dates of the event 7. The decision of the judges would be final and binding
